Musicals in the Heights
About
Cleveland Heights High School is known for their annual fall musical which features the entire Vocal Music Department. Students enrolled in the VMD make up the ensemble of singers, dancers, and actors. In order to produce the fall musical, the Vocal Music Department partners with the Instrumental Music Department, Stage Crew, Audio Engineering and Career Tech Cosmetology students to create a student-based pit orchestra, set design, audio design and hair and make-up design.
In the past eight years, Heights has performed Sister Act (2022), Matilda (2021), Damn Yankees (2019) Mary Poppins (2018) Shrek the Musical (2017), Anything Goes (2016), Grease (2015), Guys and Dolls (2014), Hello Dolly (2013), and Phantom of the Opera (2012). Other productions include: Fiddler of the Roof, Beauty and the Beast, and West Side Story. Preparation for each year's musical begins before the school year has even started, with students memorizing lines and song literature. After the audition process is complete, the production goes into full swing. The Instrumental and Vocal Departments combine with the Stage Crew and Audio Engineering classes to ensure student involvement in all aspects of the show. After months of hard work and dedication, the yearly musical is performed for 5 nights, the first weekend in November.
